The Parks Board has put forth a positive and effective alternative that would insure all users of the park are protected. The proposals include a fenced-off 83 acre area for the off-leash dogs.

The Colorado Off-Leash Dog Association (COLDA) is adamantly opposed to compromise. COLDA is pushing for the Parks Board to sanction 108 acres of Cherry Creek State Park as an unfenced off-leash dog area effectively jeopardizing the safety and security for any horse riders from conflicts with loose dogs.

Here is how you can get Involved

Immediately email the Parks Department (parksinfo@state.co.us) with your support for their reasonable proposal of Design Alternative A to provide an 83 acre area for the dog off leash users (www.colda.org) and preserve the remainder of the park for multi-use including safe horse trails where riders don't have to worry about loose dogs creating hazards for the horseback riders.

Currently all of the state's 44 parks do not sanction off-leash areas for dog owners including Cherry Creek State Park and Chatfield State Park. This is a precedent setting issue. At the last hearing only 2% of the public responded.

COLDA is also mobilizing members to fight for their proposal which would effectively overrun any specified horse trail area.
