|The 2018 Intermountain Horse Association POKER RIDE will take place on September 8th at Alderfer Three Sisters Open Space Park in Evergreen from 9am until 1PM. Proceeds will benefit Jeffco HEAT.
How many times have you thought, “I’d LOVE to explore the trails at Alderfer Three Sisters Park in Evergreen but parking for rigs is almost nonexistent – especially on a weekend!”? Here’s your chance to explore the trails, support our horse evacuation team (JeffcoHEAT) and possibly win some $$ ($300 high poker hand and $100 low poker hand). Join the Intermountain Horse Association on their annual Poker Ride September 8th. There will be reserved parking for rigs for the event – though trailer pooling is always recommended. All details about the event can be found on their website www.Intermountainhorse.org (Maps will be added soon but you can get to the online store to register NOW).
If you are not familiar with JeffcoH.E.A.T. they are trained first responders who can go in and evacuate your horses (and other livestock) in times of emergency like wildfires. Once the roads are closed they can still go in when owners cannot. (www.JeffcoHEAT.org ) PS they serve more than Jefferson County and provide assistance for all types of emergencies.
Have you never participated in a poker ride?
Here is how it works: you ride your horse to 5 stations along the trail At each one you pick a playing card and a volunteer records it on your card. At the end the participants with the highest and lowest poker hand win the cash.
There will be 2 or 3 trail rides to choose from all varying lengths. The first group goes out at 9. Everyone must be back by noon to turn in their cards and enjoy the lunch which is included in your registration fee.
Extra added attraction: Dr. Ashleigh Olds from Aspen Creek Vet Hospital will provide microchipping. The $60 fee covers microchipping your horse and the lifetime registration.
